Auckland Education Board   (YCAF)
1857 - 1989

GENERAL

The Auckland Education Act 1857 set up nine gentlemen as Commissioners of a Board of Education.  In 1869 the Auckland Common Schools Act was passed, which more or less reinstated the provisions of the 1857 legislation.  1872 saw the passing of the Education Act that made it compulsory for all children aged 7 to 12 living within two miles of a school to attend that school. In November 1989 the Board was disestablished.
