GENERAL

The Division was responsible for regulations concerning the safety of ships and seafarers, safe cargo handling at New Zealand ports, the safe design, construction and operation of boilers and pressure vessels, lifts and cranes; the prevention of pollution of the sea by oil and the provision of policy advice on marine & maritime matters to the Minister of Transport.
