Register of Road Warrants, South Auckland Land District 1891-1904   (24531)
1891? - c.1963  range held: 1891 - c.1963

The volume in this series contains notes and photocopies of correspondence relating to the taking of land for the laying off of roads in the South Auckland land district. It relates chiefly to Maori land, but some Crown land is also included where the land has been leased, and there are a few Warrants relating to land in general ownership. The Warrants were originally issued to the Auckland Land District, but relate to land which subsequently became part of the South Auckland Land District.

The warrants in this series authorise the named Surveyor to enter the land, and take and lay off roads on any line as required and permitted under the named legislation.

The warrants are given by the Surveyor-General, Wellington or the Governor of New Zealand to a specific Surveyor in the then Auckland Land District under several different Acts, including the Native Land Act 1873, the Native Land Court Act 1886, section 16 of the Land Act 1892 or Section 92 of the Public Works Act 1894, and their subsequent re-enactments and amendments.

There is a stamp in the front of the volume indicating that it was kept by the Maori section of the Crown Lands Office.

The volume appears to have been assembled from information originally kept in the Lands and Survey Office in Auckland, but warrant numbers have been assigned after being bound into the volume. Therefore the numbers were not assigned in chronological order, but are in numerical order in the volume. The earliest Warrants are found at the back of the volume.
