GENERAL

The warrants in this series authorise the taking and laying off of roads in the area included in the part of the Hawkes Bay Land District which later became the Gisborne Land District, authorising the Gisborne District Surveyor to enter the land, and take and lay off roads on any line as required and permitted under the named legislation.


The warrants are given by the Surveyor-General, Wellington or the Governor of New Zealand to the District Surveyor, Gisborne under several different Acts, including the Native Land Act 1873, the Native Land Court Act 1886, section 16 of the Land Act 1892 or Section 92 of the Public Works Act 1894, and their subsequent re-enactments and amendments.
