COVID-19

As you may be aware New Zealand’s COVID-19 alert has moved into level 4. It is likely that level 4 measures will stay in place for a number of weeks. We will continue to make updates to this page as they are confirmed. You can read more about what level 4 means for New Zealand on the COVID-19 website.

While our reading rooms remain closed, and several of our services are suspended due to COVID-19, we are now accepting some general research enquiries. Read more about the status of our services below.

Reading rooms

All Archives New Zealand reading rooms are closed until further notice.

Government loans and copying/digitisation

Our government loans service and copying/digitisation request service have been put on hold until further notice.

If you have already submitted a request, we will be in touch to let you know its status.

If you have any requests directly related to COVID-19 we can treat these as urgent.

Enquiries

Researchers are welcome to submit enquiries through our website at this time. We will be able to provide general advice and guidance, but please note that we do not currently have access to our physical holdings. If your enquiry requires research into these records, we will advise you of this and suggest you contact us again once we have access.

Please also note that our copying and digitisation service has been put on hold at this time.

Abuse in Care - Royal Commission of Inquiry

Responses to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into State Abuse have also been put on hold until further notice.

  • Information management during COVID-19

If you're unsure about managing information during COVID-19 we've written a short piece of guidance about what should be considered.

We appreciate these are uncertain times and we have taken a lot of consideration into making these decisions. As you will be aware the safety for our people, our customers and our community must be the top priority for us all.

We will review the status of our services regularly as the situation evolves and update you accordingly.
