GENERAL

This sector specific General Disposal Authority (GDA) applies to all records created and received by New Zealand Universities and the New Zealand Vice Chancellors' Committee that are covered by the Public Records Act 2005. It has been designed to capture all university records, with the exception of teaching and research materials created by academic staff, and covers Auckland University of Technology, Lincoln University, Massey University, University of Auckland, University of Canterbury, University of Otago, University of Waikato and Victoria University of Wellington.

In May 2012 Universities New Zealand - Te Pokai Tara requested an amendment to the GDA to include two new classes of records created by the National Poisons Centre.  These are:

1. Added Class 18 Specialist Services to External Clients, which will be retained for 10 years and then destroyed.
2. Added the sub-class Loans 4.7.1, for records relating to the raising of major loans and use of loan funds. These will be retained until they are no longer required for reference purposes and then archived.
