Update on Archives New Zealand’s Christchurch Office

The public reading room of Archives New Zealand's Christchurch office is open. The opening hours are currently 9.30am to 1.00pm, Monday to Friday, with last orders at 12.30pm.

Due to earthquake damage to our shelving, large parts of our holdings have been moved to offsite storage. While they are accessible, access is subject to ten days’ notice and a payment of $10.50 per box involved.

Before you visit, please email (christchurch.archives@dia.govt.nz) or ring us (03 377 0760), to find out whether the items you would like to see are on site, or need to be ordered from offsite storage.

All other records remain accessible on site and free of charge for viewing in the reading room.

Chris Adam, Christchurch Regional Archivist
